Sale Private Treaty: The Miller's of Gildford, Montana, have raised Simmental cattle on their ranch since the spring of 1970. During the early '70s, we tried several other exotic breeds but ever since that first Simmental calf hit the ground we have known that this Simmental breed was a definite improvement for our own herd and the beef industry, too. Throughout the '70s we continued to breed Simmental using a Parisian son we purchased in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, from the LaCombe Bull Test Center. In 1979, my dad and uncle decided to retire from the cattle business and at that time we downsized keeping just 50 purebred cows. From that nucleus we have continued to improve our herd in quality and quantity, and today we have over 100 pairs. In the 1980s, we felt our cattle were becoming a bit extreme in size and to counter that we did some breeding with Angus bulls. Our herd now contains a lot of percentage cattle. Our goal has always been to strive to improve our genetics to fit our reproductive and economic needs. Not only must a cow be productive in our herd, she must also produce cattle that will work for our customers. If you are ever traveling Hwy. 2 across central Montana, feel free to stop by for a visit. We'd love to have you see our entire herd. We bet you'll be impressed. |
